Spring races in Canada (2027)

55 races have a confirmed date between March 1 and May 31, 20279 in March, 7 in April, 39 in May — and another 104 ran last spring and have not announced their 2027 date yet, so 65% of the spring races on this page are still waiting on one. It fills in through the winter as organizers publish, and is rebuilt nightly. March is shared with the winter racing guide, which runs to the end of the month.

Two kinds of listing on this page. Every date shown is one an organizer has published. The second list is different: those races ran last spring and have not yet said when they run in 2027, so they are filed under the month they usually run, with no date attached. A guessed date shown as a real one would be worse than no date at all.

Races that usually run in spring

And 14 more that usually run in April.

Usually May · 65

And 50 more that usually run in May.

Spring by the numbers

Across all 159 races on the spring calendar, confirmed or usual, 69% include a 5K, 52% a 10K and 23% a half marathon or longer; 15 include a full marathon. Ontario holds 48% of them.

Read these as the shape of the season rather than a complete count. The Vancouver Sun Run, Ottawa Race Weekend and the Calgary Marathon are not on this calendar yet. Manitoba (3% of the whole calendar, 0% here) is under-counted: races there mostly reappear here only once a new date is published, so expect it to fill in as dates arrive.

What spring weather actually does

Ten-year weather normals for the week and town of 109 of the 159 spring races; the rest are in places without a weather record. Across every race town with a weather record, the typical daily high climbs from 0°C in the first week of March to 21°C by the end of May — a 21° swing inside one season, which is why a March race and a May race call for different kit.

March6°C-3°C43%15
April12°C2°C41%25
May16°C7°C34%69

In 12 of the 15 March race-weeks measured, the typical overnight low is below freezing — so an early start line can be far colder than the afternoon high suggests.

Planning a spring race from here

A May marathon wants 16 to 18 weeks of training, which puts the start of the block in January or early February. Registration is already open for 47 of the 52 confirmed spring races that publish an opening date, and 5 open later.

Build the season around it with the season planner, see when race season peaks, or check when to register.
