When is race season in Canada?

Short answer: October, then September. Below is every race on the calendar — 849 with a confirmed date, plus 1348 that ran last year and haven't announced their next date, counted in the month they last ran — sorted every way worth sorting. These numbers are computed from the live data and change nightly, so they're current rather than a snapshot someone typed once.

October has 417 races with a confirmed date, plus 56 that ran then last year. January has 27 races with a confirmed date, plus 14 that ran then last year. October and September together hold 41% of the calendar, counting each undated race in the month it last ran.

An honest caveat about the far end of the chart. A Newfoundland runner pointed out that the early-season figures say as much about this calendar as they do about Canadian racing. Races announce their next date on their own schedule, so the months furthest away arrive here last. The lighter part of each bar counts races that ran last year and haven't re-announced, which narrows that gap without closing it: some platforms, including Quebec's two main ones, drop last year's races instead of keeping them listed. Treat the mostly-undated months as a floor, not a count. The shape of the year is real; those exact numbers are not.

The busiest race weekends

If your local 10K always seems to clash with three other local 10Ks, this is why: 46% of the weekend races with a confirmed date fall on these five weekends.

Which provinces race most

The one that surprises people: Quebec. A large share of Québécois races never appear on the English-language race sites at all, because organizers list them on Le-Sportif rather than the platforms the rest of the country uses. If you're an anglophone runner who has never raced in Quebec, that's probably why — the races are there, just not where you were looking. They're all on the Quebec page.

What to do with this

If you want a goal race: pick October or September and work backwards. That's where the choice is — 447 races with a confirmed date between them, plus 453 that ran then last year. The season planner builds the tune-up races around whatever you choose.

If you want a quiet race: look past the weekends above. A smaller field on a quieter weekend is friendlier for a first one.

If you're a race director: look at those weekends before you set a date. The busiest, October 3, 2026, has 104 races across Canada; the weekend after, October 10, 2026, has 44.
